GOD DAMN TERRORISM!

By Joe Renna

The United States is engaged in a war against an enemy unlike any in history. They are not a nation. They have no country and are uncivilized. They are people whose culture is so warped that it defies all standards of human decency. The world is now forced to respond to their decree of terrorism upon humanity.

On September 11, 2001 a horrific attack on the United States galvanized America and the decent nations of the world to put an end to these terrorists and the governments that harbor them. The nature of this war is unprecedented. The enemy exists in cells throughout the world. They assimilate into the very communities that they condemn and exist with the intention of destroying them.

The attack on the World Trade Center in New York and The Pentagon in our nation's capital killed nearly 7,000 innocent people. A thwarted third attack resulted in a felled hijacked commercial airliner. There is no telling how many other plans were aborted and unsuccessful. It is a shame that it took such a horrific incident to evoke a decisive response, for these terrorists declared their intentions years ago and have a history of perpetrating heinous acts.

There is no alternative in dealing with these predators. This military campaign is not about getting even or delivering justice . This war is less about revenge and more about preventing future loss of innocent life. There is a cancer that must be cut from humanity and it is in the form of terrorism. We must trust that the military action will be delivered with the precision of a skilled surgeon. The goal is to root out all the evil that riddles humanity, thereby preserving the wholesome components.

This call to arms is not a knee-jerk reaction. Peaceful and diplomatic means have always been our country's first consideration. In fact, in the face of much criticism, military reaction to terrorism in the past was abbreviated or nonexistent. There is no denying that war is hell. It is a struggle to accept the fact that there will be casualties. It is even more troubling to imagine the extent of future terrorism if it is left unchecked.

No matter how much propaganda relates these acts of terror to anything divine, these notions could not be further from the truth. The twisted interpretation of the Koran is blasphemous to the Muslim religion. It is the view of these so-called Muslim fundamental extremists that the teachings of their religion call for the death and destruction of any entity that does not conform to their beliefs. The United States exemplifies a free and open society. This, being in direct contrast to the oppressive, self-mutilating terrorist society, makes America their prime target. This is not a holy war, or jihad. There is nothing spiritual about it. This is a worldly phenomenon and must be dealt with in a substantial manner.

Coming to terms with personal beliefs that contradict war is an individual challenge. Humanity must exist in this physical world and as an entity it must adapt. Faith in God and devotion to righteousness will not be lost in the turmoil. Ultimately, virtuousness shall prevail. To deny or challenge the reality of the military strikes that will be waged in retaliation against these recent attacks is to dismiss the attacks, nullify their damage and ignore the consequences. The lives that have been lost and the pain and suffering caused by these acts of terror should not be diminished.
It is reproachful to evoke the name of God in protest to the aggression on terrorism. Instead, that spiritual energy should be used in healing the tens of thousands of family members who lost loved ones, the hundreds of thousands of disheartened friends and co-workers who are suffering, the millions of decent people who feel the pain whenever innocence is lost. These people need prayers. Better yet, they need a helping hand.
